A-!

My first real achievement for the semester: an A- for my advanced accounting quiz!

It’s been a subject I have constantly struggled with, as it is something that is really time intensive. With 4 core modules this semester, time is probably the last thing I can afford. The few days leading to the quiz had been tough, but I am glad my hard work paid off. Nothing pleases me as much as seeing how working hard for something translate to good results (relative).

It’s only a 12.5% quiz, and there is another one coming up on Monday. My time table for the next few days look ominous enough (no time!), but I do hope that I have the energy to pit in more hard work. And that said hard work will translate to good result once more.

I am a grammer teacher

Through out the time in school, one thing that I do often is editing my team’s report.

This semester a particular incident stood out. The job to compile an accounting essay fell on a team mate, who deemed my language to be too flowery. On her discretion, my intended ideas were given a major overhaul, losing all its original meaning. I disagreed with what was done, but decided to let it slide.

For some reasons, the responsibility to submit the report fell back on me. When I realised that the ‘finalised’ essay was in fact 2 pages short of content, I reverted back to what I initially wrote and submitted it half-heartedly.

The report was given a 100%. And beside my point was a comment. It says “Well said!” I can’t deny it felt good.

This post is not written with the intention of showcasing my writing ability, nor downplaying others’. It’s about this little thing called responsibility, or commitment, which I sense is increasingly missing in today’s people.

What are those glamourous lines on your glorious resumes if you can’t even get the basic things done?

Spew

Woke up this morning thinking that it is a weekend morning. I guess it’s my body’s way of protesting. After Monday’s quiz, everyone deserves a good rest. Really.

Life hasn’t been terribly exciting, but there are quite a number of things going on.

I have been invited to a students’ conference in Manilla sometime in April. Still waiting for the details to iron out- if it’s fully sponsored, I am packing my stuffs.

There is a JAL scholarship with a fully sponsored trip to Japan up for grabs. Countless disappointments have already put me in good stead. I am just going to apply and see where it brings me.

A management consulting firm is looking for people who speaks Japanese to help develop their business activities in Japan. I have to curse at myself for not having picked up the language already. I wasn’t the intended target they are looking for, but I applied anyway.

The waiting was enough. I enquired pwc if my scheduled start date for work has been decided. While the customary “it’s still in the process” was quite expected, being told that I am currently being placed in their first batch (July 13) is still great news. Some were told to start in January, some had their contracts rescinded.

Well.
